The Little Opera Company (LOC), in collaboration with Flipside Opera and Art Song Collective, and with support from Manitoba Opera, is proud to announce, "Michael Cavanagh’s Enduring Legacy: A Fundraiser." This special event will celebrate the life and work of Winnipeg-born opera icon, director Michael Cavanagh.
For 30 years, The Little Opera Company has been dedicated to launching emerging artists, producing independent opera, and celebrating the vibrant opera community in Winnipeg. This event continues that tradition by honouring Michael Cavanagh, whose journey in opera began as a child chorister on the Manitoba Opera stage production of Carmen. His love of opera later grew into an illustrious directing career that brought joy and innovation to opera houses across Canada, the United States, and Europe.
The fundraiser concert and wine reception will take place on Friday, June 6 at 7:00 PM at the Desautels Concert Hall, located at 150 Dafoe Road West in Winnipeg. The evening will feature performances weaving together works famously directed by Mr. Cavanagh, alongside a full performance of Gisela in her Bathtub, his co-creation with local composer Neil Weisensel, starring Mariam Bernstein, who originated the role.
Attendees will enjoy performances by renowned opera singers including Tracy Dahl, Monica Huisman, Lara Secord-Haid, Lizzy Hoyt, as well as opera stars of tomorrow. Beyond an evening of stellar music, participation in this event will directly support the Michael Cavanagh Legacy Fund, specifically designated for emerging stage directors.
