About the Concert
For a young J. S. Bach, it was an arduous 400 km journey to hear the music of Dietrich Buxtehude and his Abendmusiken in1705. Start your weekend with a much shorter trip to All Saints Anglican Church to hear a performance of Membra Jesu Nostri, Buxtehude’s choral masterwork, as well as his organ Magnificat, interspersed with Gregorian chant. The choir will be joined by the ensemble Fidem In Fidibus on period instruments.
About the All Saints Anglican Church Choir
The All Saints Choir is a one of Winnipeg’s finest church choirs, singing weekly Sunday morning services and monthly Evensongs, plus special services such as the annual Advent Procession with Carols (begun by Hugh Bancroft in 1952), for which All Saints is well known. Besides traditional Renaissance and Tudor repertoire, the choir enjoys singing contemporary music as well as works by Canadian composers. It also enjoys presentations of larger choral works with small orchestra, such as J. S. Bach’s Ascension Oratorio performed at the 2024 Winnipeg Baroque Festival. The choir continues to uphold the long and venerable music tradition of the parish, exemplified by winning second place in the 2008 CBC National Radio Competition for Amateur Choirs.
