Samuel Coleridge-Taylor was a composer of African heritage who rose to prominence in 19th century Britain, and there was a time when his cantata "Hiawatha's Wedding Feast" was performed at a frequency to rival Handel's Messiah! It was so popular that it compelled the composer to produce two additional cantatas, creating the "Hiawatha Trilogy." This year is the 150th anniversary of his birth, and in anticipation of Chamber Orchestra MUSAIC's tribute concert, Artistic Director Larry Strachan will lead participants through the original cantata in its entirety as well as play excerpts from the remaining two.
