Black History Month Vocal Workshop-Celebration of Spirituals and West Indian Song

Saturday, Feb 1, 2025 at 2:00PM Repeating event

Manitoba Conservatory of Music & Arts

Following the success of the Spirituals and Music of the Caribbean Workshops, Adèle M. Wilding has combined highlights from both workshops to create a unique, vocal experience. Songs to be covered include field songs, work songs and popular and lesser known vocal gems from the West Indies. You will learn these songs through the aural-oral method of song acquisition, based on West African musical practices. Techniques such as call and response and use of body percussion will be covered. There will be three weeks of learning songs. Week four will consist of a rehearsal and song sharing class. No previous experience required, but the ability to sing harmony would be an asset.
