The Women's Musical Club of Winnipeg is celebrating its 130th year as a key organization in bringing classical music to our city by way of concerts by artists both local and internationally renowned. Join us for a lovely champagne brunch in the spectacular setting of The Leaf at Assiniboine Park, while hearing Tomson Highway in songs and in stories as only he knows how to tell.
In addition to a vibrant concert series, WMC offers scholarship opportunities. In 1974, a WMC Scholarship was won by Tomson Highway who, inspired to become a concert pianist, went on to earn a music degree in piano performance from the University of Western Ontario, followed by a Bachelor of Arts in 1976.
50 years later, having dedicated himself to the service of his people, compelled to record his wide-ranging experience of Indigenous life and to put his artistic training to use, Tomson is living an international career as playwright, novelist, pianist, and song writer. He is the recipient of eleven honorary doctorates and is an officer of the Order of Canada. In 2022, he delivered the CBC Massey Lectures in his inimitable style and to great acclaim.
We can't wait to present Tomson in this celebration of WMC. We often hear the line "You don't want to miss this." Well, you really don't want to miss this!
