Didem Başar is a virtuosic performer and composer based in Montreal. Her primary instrument, the kanun, is a Turkish classical instrument known for its elegant timbre and flourishing melodies. As a masterful musician who loves to challenge her instrument’s boundaries, Didem has composed a set of works for kanun, percussion and strings, the product of a thirty-year musical journey synthesizing her Turkish music background and her Western classical music education. She will be joined for this concert by percussionist Patrick Graham of Montreal and an ensemble of multifaceted string players who are currently based in Manitoba.
