Originally from Edmonton, Catherine Daniel is a dynamic performer whose training and performances have taken her across North America and Europe. Catherine has a long history of exploring various genres while simultaneously staying rooted in her classical training as an operatic mezzo-soprano. She is equally comfortable singing jazz and gospel as she is singing Carmen. She is a storyteller and brings her soul to any performance within any genre. “Catherine Daniel [is] a force of nature…” (Natasha Gautier, Opera Canada).
Darryl Friesen has been praised for his “rich palette of tonal color” and performances of “intimate, poignant simplicity” (Winnipeg Free Press). He has given acclaimed performances as a soloist and collaborative artist across Canada, the United States, Europe, China, and Brazil, and has been featured many times in concert on CBC Radio.
Together, Daniel and Dr. Friesen hope to welcome their audience, move them in the ways that only live music can do, and introduce to them a whole new vista of repertoire by Black composers to which they might form new and satisfying attachments.
