A young man brings his grandfather’s violin to Israeli luthier Amnon Weinstein for repair. When Weinstein opens it, he finds black powder inside, soon realizing it is ashes from the crematoria of Auschwitz where the grandfather had last played the instrument. Amnon and his son, Avshi, begin collecting more Holocaust violins, restoring them and learning from the owners their stories of injustice, suffering, resilience, and survival.

In a moving and unforgettable program, you will experience in performance what the owners heard as they played on two of these instruments. A musical journey from Holocaust to hope.

Location

Centennial Concert Hall, 555 Main Street, Winnipeg, Manitoba
