To celebrate the three months in Summer 2021, The Winnipeg Singers created a 3-part summer series available 24/7 entitled EARTH SKY WATER.
EARTH launched on the first official day of summer.
SKY follows 3 weeks later on Sunday, July 11, 2021.
WATER ends our Summer Series on Sunday, August 1, 2021.
SKY is a collection of 3 songs:
- Qilak arr. Andrew Balfour ***
- Northern Lights by Ola Gjeilo
- Winter Sun by Don MacDonald from a Poem by Malca Litovitz
*** Qilak centres on the northern sky in the Arctic. Qilak, a 10 part choral piece, relates to the Arctic landscape with the sun reflecting on the snow and the Inuktitut's music of throat singing and Ayaya songs of Southern Baffin Island that Andrew experienced in a 2009 visitation.
