INTRO TO BRAZILIAN MUSIC

THURSDAYS: 7:00 – 8:30 PM | May 6 & 13
COST: $50 both ; $35 per class | INSTRUCTOR: Marco Castillo | CLASS LENGTH: 1 or 2 Weeks

Take a trip into the universe of Brazilian music and its history with renowned Winnipeg guitarist and musician, Marco Castillo. Join Marco for a journey into the music of Brazil, its influences, developments, and relevant facts. We will listen and learn about the diverse styles of Choro, Samba, and other rhythms; the bossa-nova era, and the evolution of samba and carnaval. Marco will also explore the effects of twenty-one years of military dictatorship in Brazil on the culture, the festivals and censorship.

Some of the featured artists will be Chiquinha Gonzaga, Pixinguinha, Tom Jobim and a few of the many songs we will review are “Machuca” (C.Gonzaga), “Brejeiro” (E.Nazaré), and “Wave” (Tom Jobim).
